Good happy hour menu! Oysters were great
Was not impressed here at all. The guy on the bar was friendly, everyone else not so much. They try to appear fancy byt yeah not really. I only had the lobster roll which for over $30 is a big letdown. It's more of a half roll with little meat, cold and chewy and not pleasant to eat. Coleslaw no flavour and mostly mayo. Side of ketchup, amazing.
Came with a party of two around 7ish, the restaurant was super busy, while we didn't make any reservation, the host somehow managed to get us a table (super nice of him). We had three each of the west coast oyster, grill clam, grill oyster, crispy calamari, England clam chower for start. Have to say while the raw oysters were great, I was more pleasantly surprised by the grill oyster and grill clam, they were done just right (rather than the usual over cooked grill seafood). We also ordered a grilled local sole. Let me say OMG, by far the best grilled fish I have had in the US. Wasn't over cooked, wasn't too salty, extremely fresh. Our waitress was super nice and helpful as well (not too much, just the right amount of checking in). For a seafood lover, I would give 5.5 star if I could.
seafood at this spot - great. Good place to relax and unwind. I had a brother come into town and asked me to take him back here. The bill was fair for the quality of the food.
Divine lobster rolls with great beer and awesome appetizers (go for the bacon wrapped oysters).Service is good, even when it's crowded.Oh! It's on the expensive side (you can spend 100 USD easily).
I ordered the steak. It had a nice crust, but I think it was cooked medium, while I wanted it medium rare. It was pretty nicely seasoned, but the service wasn't that great. We were trying to get some ketchup, but they forgot to bring us some. We also were trying to flag our waitress but she was usually busy with other tables and didn't really check in with us. Someone in my party thought the veggies were a bit salty...Service: 2/5Food: 3/5Ambiance: 2.5/5Overall: 2.5/5, rounded to be 3...Would I come back? Probably not...
Everything was good, but nothing was exceptional. We went with a set of oysters, which were good, but slightly gritty and continued on with 3 small plates, the grilled octopus, which was just slight chewy, but had great flavor. The calamari, which lacked any of its own flavor, but had a good side curry sauce. And the pork belly, which was actually very good, and probably the highlight of the meal.
Modern, trendy garage turned into a high end restaurant. Phenomenal seafood options
Fish & chips was great. Nice and flaky, not a thick layer of batter like so many places. Good attentive service. Not a vast beer selection but a good, tasteful one with some nice surprises. Will return.
Good service. The waiters are well trained for introducing the food and draft. Cool atmosphere and well food. The oyster are super fresh .
Great seafood at a reasonable price for a sit down lunch in fidi. Clam chowder on a cold day can't be beat. Fish and chips were hearty and well prepared.
Came on a Tuesday afternoon, was quiet and nice ambience but the food I think is slightly overpriced. One lobster roll will set you back USD29. It wasn't a very memorable dish and wasn't very big either.
Very good place original good and surprising. With a perfect beer.
Great time at Anchor & Hope in SOMO, really good seafood, great wine and beer selection. Had a delicious halibut steak and tuna tartare appetizer. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Kinda of pricey, but extremely nice ambiance and service! The seafood is super fresh and tasty! If I have $$$ I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to come back. If you come for lunch, make sure to come before noon as it gets packed quick.
Great food and service. The bacon wrapped octopus and lobster rolls were amazing. highly recommended
Absolutely love this place. Moved to SF earlier this year and this restaurant is a go to for me. Their seafood is amazing and the crab cakes are delicious. I also tried every oyster on the menu- not kidding and you literally won’t be disappointed with any of them, especiallyThe bacon wrapped. Can’t wait to go back!
Absolutely amazing! We ordered the seafood platter. The oysters are so fresh and briney. I know briney isn't a word but these things taste like little gems from the ocean. I didn't realize the clams would be raw as well, but I am so glad I got to try them. They are one of my new favorite raw eats. The crab and ceviche were delicious also. The clam chowder was thin compared to east coast chowder but the flavor was spot on. A nice amount of clams, creamy and rich. The Angels on Horseback are a must have. Oysters wrapped in bacon and cooked until they are crispy on the outside but filled with tender juicy oyster on the inside. They also have a nice wine selection that goes great with the seafood options. They carry Sans Rose of Carignan which my wife loves and is pretty hard to find.
I have been here many times and usually the experience has been fantastic. This time was terrible. Our server "Casper" was one of the worst servers I've ever had in my entire history of dinning out. She was terrible. Our large party (7 people) was treated poorly. Food was tasty as always but the service experience was bad enough for me to write this review. Sorry to see such an excellent restaurant ruined by such a terrible service experience....avoid until they correct the staff issue.
The bacon-wrapped clams were delicious; the savory bacon and the sea-saltiness of the clams worked very well together. I ordered the fish and chips and the fish was fluffy, not overly-battered and not too oily. The staff was very helpful and offered great suggestions.
Absolutely a place worth stopping by, the food is awesome and fresh, the rates are convenient and it is consistently well organized in here. Kudos.
Awesome food and atmosphere
Low value for cost. Less than nuanced preparation and spare portions left me wanting more...from somewhere else. (Or just some ramen to fill the hole of disappointment.) If you care about food, there is much better flavor and proportions elsewhere. Cozy atmosphere and average service for neighborhood. If you are spending someone else’s money...go to town on the raw bar, it’s fresh.
My preferred place for Seafood. filled me up. the service was very helpful and welcoming. the place has a good atmosphere.
The shrimp in the tacos is nicely cooked and seasoned, I loved it but tortillas were burnt and quickly soaked through and fell apart. It could use a double tortilla which is more typical for tacos at restaurants, at least in Mexico. It would be great to have an option for a spicy salsa, and finally $26 for 3 tacos (street food) is insane. Presentation is great.
Great lunch spot. Recommend reservations as it tends to fill up very quickly. I've had the Oysters, the salmon, and the lobster roll (my favorite) and I can say that they have all been very good. Good wine selection and service too!
Visited during happy hour on a Monday. Was seated at the bar, and was not very busy. I ordered a dozen oysters ($1/per), fries ($6) and a stout ($5). Service was decent and food came out quickly. Food was good as expected. The building/room was hot for such a cold day but the decor was nice and simple. I'd go back.
A very nice restaurant that will serve you the same fish you'd get at a high end place, but for far more affordable prices. Service was fast, and the fish were delicious.
Great place, great atmosphere. Book! Normally a regular for me and gets a solid 4-5 stars, but somehow lacking in the taste department last night, the seafood just didn't pop like it should. The pumpkin creme brule was great though.
Ingredients were super fresh. Food was delicious and they had large selection of wine and beer. I went there during the happy hour so I had beer with happy hour price $5. The only thing I didnt like was portion was way too small. It seems more suitable if you are looking for small plates with drinks.
Was visiting SF recently for business and a group of us came here for dinner after a long day. Great ambience and service. We tried and shared many dishes, all of which were delicious! Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy seafood!
I went here about 3 or 4 years ago. I first heard of it because of the book "Cooking My Way Back Home." One of the authors is an owner here. When I made a recipe from that book (Scallops in couscous with preserved lemon) I know I had to go here if I was ever in San Fran.I got lucky and had the opportunity to visit so I had a late lunch there. I was a little pricey, but I've rarely been to a restaurant where I could be so confident in saying "it was worth every penny."I had the lobster sandwich, by the way. The tots were out of this world.
Great food and service! Huge range of wine and beer. Nice staff.
I've been here twice and enjoyed it both times. Food is tasty and staff is very friendly. It can get unbelievably loud though, and the last time I went my friend's salmon was very undercooked and my fish and chips was too flaky - completely fell apart trying to eat it. Every tastes amazing though, so fairly easy to look past those experiences.
Place was just ok. Slow service. I got the cacciucco, it smelled very very fishy. I’m pretty sure it was the mussels, I did not eat them in fear I was going to get sick. Everything else smelled and tasted fine but I smelled everything before I ate it. My friend got the tacos and she said they were very salty and she didn’t eat much. We got dessert, which was very good but we didn’t pay 115$ to get a good dessert and we didn’t even get any alcohol. I don’t think I’ll return.
We like a lot to go out. Last night we went to this superb place which friends told us about. We enjoyed a delightful evening there with high-qulity food and a courteous crew and a great cuisine. We added this fine restaurant in our list and we shall no doubt come back soon. Highly recommended.
Great seafood. Lovely ambiance. I enjoyed the fisherman's stew, clam chowder. Service was great with very helpful friendly staff
Came in from NYC for a conference. Lovely place! Can’t beat fresh 1$ west coast oysters for happy hour. Dinner menu is tasty as well- got the charred blackened shrimp tacos
Their lobster role with aioli is second to none. Great food, good vibes, killer beer, and just around the corner from the Salesforce park.
We went there with my two kids (two and four years old) and aimed to some fresh dollar oysters. Staffs were nice. The 4-year-old was sleepy and they put two chairs together as a bed for him. We asked for 24 oysters at the first round. Two glass of Cava were excellent. The sautee shrimp was nice but a little bit over priced. We took no more than 10 min to finish all the oysters and wine. While waiting for my kid to wake up, we ordered another round of 24 oysters and this time we decided to take it nice and slow. How can you taste such fresh and juicy oyster without wine? So we ordered two glass of pinot Gris. That was awesome and I will definitely visit there again!
Great fish and chips! So far the best :) I live in the neighborhood and this place is a hidden gem.
Food was great. Service was great. Atmosphere was also right. Would come back. Fresh seafood.
Fish and chips $18 was good but the fish was small and the chips were huge. Clam chowder $15 was good. Service was excellent. No reservations were needed on a Monday lunch.
This is one of oyster spot for me and my friend! When you go this place in Happy hour, you will get oysters $1 ea love it!Service is also great, staff kept coming and ask to check that we’re doing okay. Location is also convenient for me since it’s right next to Salesforce transit center !I already miss this place
Always have a wonderful experience at Anchor & Hope. Love their Happy Hour. Great place to bring my friends to experience the city. Chill and have a drink there. .Such a beautiful contrast of the architecture of the city and the nostalgic feeling of the place.
Ordered the raw seafood small platter with oysters, cevice, crab remoulade, clams and stemmed shrimps, very very tasty! For main entree I got that halibut with the potato crust, delicious, very flaky, could have probably cooked few more minutes, but nonetheless very tasty and flaky! Finished off with a nice pannacotta with strawberries, very nice. Very good service, would come back again
This place was recommended to us from some friends, my wife and I love coming here to eat. It's a quaint little place with great food! The service had always been great. This has become a staple for us to visit whenever we are in town.
Came here for lunch and to make early reservation. The sea lion plater seems a lot for lunch with 12 oysters, clams , jumbo shrimp, crab meat and salad! The chowder is good to order for sharing instead ! The fried octopus is a little over cooked and it is chewy! Grilled sole fish with seasonal vegetable is great but you must try their steamed mussels! The broth is very Asian like with spice! Service could be more attentive and overall an enjoyable lunch!
I love this establishment, great ambiance, great food and staff... I highly recommend the Salmon w/ Potato cakes and collard greens you wont be disappointed. Dan who tends bar is extremely personable and verse in his craft!
Happy hour from 4-6pm was great for oysters at $1 a piece. After happy hour the price goes up to $4. Decent selection of drinks but the dinner menu is rather limited. Food generally above average but nothing extraordinary.
